aka Lutheranism by the Bloggers
Throughout the world, there are many different sorts of Lutherans, with many different views of what it means to be a Lutheran. An encyclopedia can present you with a neutral, unbiased view of what Lutheranism is -- or you can talk to actual Lutherans to discover what they actually believe.
After searching high and low, scouring the blog-o-sphere, I am pleased to present these blog posts about what it means to be a Lutheran. You will find here much agreement on the general principles of faith. But you will also find many differences of theology, emphasis, and tone. Some of these authors would be described as liberal, some as conservative -- but all describe themselves as Lutheran. And so, without furhter ado, I invite you to find out what it means to be a Lutheran:
Pastor Paul McCain writes a passionate explanation of why he is a Lutheran in the post I Love Jesus that's why I love Lutheranism! on the Cyberbrethren blog. Pastor McCain also offers his answer to the question "Does Being a Lutheran Matter?" on the St. James the Hoosier blog.Andy at Sinning Boldly enters into a dialogue about the Confessions in his What is Lutheranism? post, and also offers a more light-hearted Hitchhiker's Guide to Lutheranism and this post "On Lutheranism."Pastor Snyder of Ask the Pastor answers the question "What do Lutherans Believe?" (and also links to his many other postings about Lutheranism).Lee at Verbum Ipsum writes about the Lutheran ability to balance all aspects of our tradition in the Why Lutheran? post. The LutherPunk takes his stuggles with his denominational identity public in Should I Stay or Should I Go? and again here. A recent college graduate offers her take on What is means to be a Lutheran on her blog, Brett's Discernment. In attempt to respond to a prof's question, Nate produced this post on the Peter's Tent blog.Michael Borg describes What Lutherans Believe on the This is Most Certainly True blog.Yours truly has an on-going series about what it means to be a Lutheran, you can read part 1, part 2, and part 3 on my blog, postings from prairie hill.Enjoy! I discovered a number of blogs that I wasn't familiar with while doing this, and think you might enjoy some of them as well.
I know that this is certainly not all ... If you have a post on what it means to be a Lutheran, or if you have come across one you really enjoyed, leave me a comment to this post and I will add it.

This isn't Lutheran, but I commend this writer to you and your readers. She has had several posts about the necessity for Christian Reconciliation and is calling for blog articles for a Christian Reconciliation Carnival.
She has been putting forth good Biblical reasons to put aside differences and focus on our common ground, namely, our Lord. Maybe that isn't a new thought, but she is striving to write with the Biblical principals first.
It would be helpful to your readers if you had an email address posted on the blog for messages like this one that might be worthy of your time but really go with Lutheranism 101.
Dear all at St John's!
Here is a fellow Lutheran calling from Egypt, where I currently work. It seems to me that there is little on European (German, Scandinavian) Lutheranism in your blog, and from my experience our respective cultures and traditions can be very different.
A short presentation of my own church may be found here: http://kirken.no/english/engelsk.cfm?artid=11943
I wish you luck and call for God's blessings on you and your work.
Jon
PS: Found you through comments on a Wikipedia article (Eutychianism), as I am currently researching for a thesis on relations between the Coptic Orthodox and the Protestant (mailony Presbyterian) church of Egypt. I am at jaalborg (at ) mac dot com.
Pastor David,
Thanks for your comments on my blog! Keep in touch, as I will try to do the same!
Which sem did you attend? I went to Ft. Wayne, class of '93.
What does Lutheranism mean to me ? Lutheranism is a place I can rest from the cares of this world and not be blown here and there by every wind of docrine. Lutheranism is a denomination of the Christian Church, where my family and I are well cared for. Lutheranism is the apple of our Fathers eye and a leaf of His healing. Lutheranism is a pearl that God paid the full price for, we are His and He is ours. Lutheranism the Lily of the Valley , the narrow gate,a footstool for the beautiful feet of Christ who was nailed to the Cross for our sins. Lutheranism is were God's Word and Sacrament cover me with forgiveness and confort because He is full of mercy & grace. Lutheranism is a breath of fresh air in a world full of garbage and decay. Lutheranism is my livelyhood, my bread and butter, my rainbow after the storm of insanity. There by Lutheranism has put the Lord of Hosts to the test, He has opened the Windows of Heaven and poured down a blessing until there's no more need.Need we say more ?
